18 Days Until Camp Opens
With less than a calendar month to go before baseball begins to smell new again we wanted to spend each day going through some of the best performances in 2016. Using game WPA for 15 starting pitcher and hitter performances we hope to be able to take you on a trip down memory lane each day.
As chance would have it we jump all the way to the next day for our next highlight. Matt Andriese made his season debut, and while he got the start on this day, that isn’t always the case. He ran with the opportunity putting up seven full innings of four hit, three walk, three strikeout performance. The competition was less than fierce once he got buy those first three hitters, but Matt abided and found a way to pitch deep into a game that the team would go on to win under his watch. Here are some highlights:
I also found a video of Curt Casali talking about his own big game (2-4, HR/2B), but also how well Andriese looked to start the year. I have no idea if Matty has the inside lane for the fifth starter role, but more performances like this can only help. I like that even Casali doesn’t know exactly what Andriese’s diving, sharp biting slider/splitter is.
