20 Days Until Camp Opens

With less than a calendar month to go before baseball begins to smell new again we wanted to spend each day going through some of the best performances in 2016. Using game WPA for 15 starting pitcher and hitter performances we hope to be able to take you on a trip down memory lane each day.

#26 – Erasmo Ramirez on April 16th vs the White Sox #25 Corey Dickerson on September 7th vs the Orioles

#24 – Chris Archer on July 3rd vs the Tigers #23 Brad Miller on July 15th vs the Orioles

#22 – Matt Moore on June 29th vs the Red Sox #21 Logan Morrison on May 25 vs the Marlins

#20 – Blake Snell on September 22nd vs the Yankees 

It’s easy to point to the rare September wins that this team was able to put up, and say, “If not for this win the team would have the second overall pick in the draft instead of the fourth.” While that knowledge can be frustrating, it does help that wins like these allowed future contributors like Blake Snell to shine for an evening. Blake gave the team five strong innings with six strikeouts, three walks and five hits. Corey Dickerson would supply all the necessary offense, but kudos to Snell for locking it down early and often before handing the ball to Chase Whitley, another future contributor, who managed eight outs. Alex Colome came on for the final four, and you got to witness a formula that I’m sure the team would like to roll with quite often this year. Solid start, great bridge, knockout finish. Do that often enough and it won’t matter if the team only scored two on the day. Here’s some highlights:
