23 Days Until Camp Opens

With less than a calendar month to go before baseball begins to smell new again we wanted to spend each day going through some of the best performances in 2016. Using game WPA for 15 starting pitcher and hitter performances we hope to be able to take you on a trip down memory lane each day.

#30Jake Odorizzi on May 24th vs the Marlins #29 – Evan Longoria on June 14th vs the Mariners

When things are going bad, well, it just seems like nothing can go right. The Rays would ultimately lose this game to the Royals, their 23rd loss in 26 games, and seventh in a row. It’s hard to fault Brad Miller, though. He went 2-3 with a double and two walks with the double coming in the 9th inning against arguably the best reliever in baseball, Zach Britton. Unfortunately, the Rays couldn’t cash him in to tie the game as Logan Morrison and Steven Souza Jr. would gamely wave their bats at pitches well out of the zone. Coming in a game where Chris Archer pitched into the 8th with plenty of hard hit balls right at guys this was a pretty demoralizing loss, and signalled the end of contention with several months to go. Here’s some highlights that don’t actually feature Brad Miller at the plate in any way, but what can you do.
