Strengths (2011-2013):

  • His called strike rate is 36.2%; that is better than 93% of all qualified starting pitchers
  • His Chase% is 31.3%; that is better than 91% of all qualified starting pitchers
  • Opponents have a .294 wOBA against him, which is better than 87% of all qualified starting pitchers
  • Opponents have a .359 slugging percentage against him, which is better than 93% of all qualified starting pitchers
  • Has held RH batters to a .317 slugging percentage, which places him 10th out of 245 pitchers
  • Has allowed just 7 home runs in 2120 pitches to RH batters. Minimum 2000 pitches, that is the lowest total of all pitchers over the past three seasons

Weaknesses (2011-2013):

  • His average velocity, 86.5 mph, is near the bottom third of qualified starting pitchers
  • His 7.7% walk rate is in the bottom half of the rankings of qualified starting pitchers
  • His 11% whiff rate on his fastball is barely above the bottom 25th percentile of qualified starting pitchers
  • His K% is three percentage points lower while his walk rate is nearly three percentage points higher when he is pitching with runners on base
  • Baserunners are 42 of 48 in their stolen base attempts when Cobb is on the mound and were 30 of their first 32.
