Enny Romero Named Rays’ Top Prospect

Baseball Prospectus released their top-10 Rays prospect list on Friday morning.

Enny Romero, who debuted in the majors late in the season, when the Rays needed an emergency starter, claimed the top spot. Jason Parks cites Romero’s size and potential for three-above average offerings (including two of the plus-plus variety) as reasons to think he might develop into a middle-of-the-rotation starter. Conversely, Romero’s inconsistency with command and secondary pitches force Parks to consider a late-inning relief gig as his more realistic role.

The rest of the list has a familiar feel. Players like Kevin Kiemaier and Andrew Toles, who gained helium throughout the season, latched on near the bottom. Meanwhile, Hak-Ju Lee and Taylor Guerrieri slipped due to injuries.
