Freddy Guzman Promoted
The Rays have purchased the contract of outfielder Freddy Guzman and brought him to the majors to serve as a pinch runner, according to Andrew Astleford.
Guzman’s promotion is a surprise, in large part because nobody knew he was in the organization. He did not play with a minor-league affiliate, and his signing date is unknown. Puro Beisbol tweeted twice about Guzman signing with the Rays, once on August 29 and again on September 1. The exact date is important, since he would not be postseason eligible if he joined the organization after August ended.
Guzman, who hasn’t played in the majors since 2009, has proven to be a skilled basestealer throughout his career.
