Game #119 Lineups and Outlook
It was pretty fun to watch the Rays bats come alive yesterday as they played one of their best games all year. Unfortunately, it came with the downside of Matt Duffy joining Logan Forsythe on the hurt, but not injured status that saps the bench of a useful player in the meantime. I see the Rays as a strong favorite today, but nowhere near as strong as the gamblers:
While I see the Rays as a strong favorite I’m not sure there is much value in the play as the line is tilted dramatically away from them. For this reason I’ll take the exaggerated payout the Padres look to have an edge on and gladly take the loss if it comes. No Duffy and no Forsythe takes away two of the team’s best batters against lefties, but Longo is still there and Souza looks like another strong play. On the other side I wouldn’t expect Archer to be challenged all that much. When he gets beat it often has to do with his own issues, anyway.
The Rays bench is basically Corey Dickerson and maybe Luke Maile, though the Rays have been reluctant to use the backup catcher all that much this year. The Padres have a couple of power threats and then the flexible glove of Rosales.
