Game #72 Lineups and Outlook
Once again the vast chasm between Matty Moore’s #want to pitch deep into a game and his ability to do so was on full display. After a fine start it all imploded upon him late in the game, but it’s truly hard to fault Mr. Kevin Cash for trying to squeeze some extra juice out of him with how poorly the bullpen has fared of late. This is why I didn’t mind the quick hooks last year. I’d rather see a guy pulled at the first sign of dark clouds rather than wait for the rain to pack up the picnic.
The Rays look to have a slight edge today due to being a slightly smaller dog in the system’s opinion. One thing not accounted for is that Andriese is only likely to face these guys twice each, at most, as I’d expect the Rays to sell out hard to win the first game and hope for the gravy in the second. In a normal year that might actually boost their chances, but with this pen… /throws hands up
Note that the Rays do have Oswaldo Arcia available off the bench, and he looks like a solid pinch hitter against Givens and Despaigne. Could be something to look for. Additionally, with the extra slot for today’s doubleheader the Rays have Danny Farquhar available if needed. He had a severe case of Geltz the last time he was up, but hopefully he used his time in AAA to get the feel back for his once-good stuff.
