Game 9 Lineups & Outlooks

As foretold here Carlos Carrasco was an absolute beast last night. I caught most of it on the radio around a flight, but it sounded like he was electric. The Rays batters never had a chance. Well, they did, but were let down by their defense as Collette outlined last night. Drew Smyly continued to strike out the world and managed to hide the homer this time. He’s really freaking good. Maybe next game we can score more than a run for him. Here’s what your 3-5 Rays are slated to face in today’s rubber match:

I expected the Rays to be the dog in this game, but perhaps I over-rate Danny Salazar. Or am affected too much by the recency bias of Archie’s last few starts. He will look to right the ship this afternoon against a lineup that should give him few troubles outside of Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana. Contain those two and get your outs where you should throughout the rest of the lineup and it’s easy to see why the Rays are a pretty strong favorite here. It looks like there might even be a small edge for illicit purposes.
