Strengths (2009-2013):

  • Improved his K% by five percentage points last year while reducing his BB% by the same amount
  • Has struck out 24.9% of the batters he has faced, placing him in the top 13th percentile
  • Has limited batters to a .293 wOBA, placing him in the top 25th percentile
  • Has 22.9% Miss%, which is better than 65% of all qualified relievers
  • Has a 25.5% K% vs RH batters, placing him in the top 10th percentile
  • Just 35.7% of his pitches are put into play, placing him in the bottom 12th percentile
  • 63% of his strikeouts were completed with strikeouts despite  his curveball being his best pitch

Weaknesses (2009-2013):

  • His walk rate is nearly double vs LH batters (11.0%) than it is vs RH batters (6.2%)
  • 17 of the 25 homers allowed have come against right-handed batters, 15 of which were fastballs
  • 19 of his 25 home runs have come off fastballs
  • He has thrown 47.5% of his pitches in the strike zone, placing him in the bottom 30th percentile
  • His 8.5% BB% is in the bottom 50th percentile
  • Has scrapped his changeup; threw 53 in 2012 and just 2 in 2013
