Strengths (2009-2013):

  • Strikeout rate is better than 88% of all qualified batters
  • Swing and Miss rate is better than 92% of all qualified batters
  • Handles hard stuff from right-handed pitching better than 69% of the league (.362 wOBA)
  • His .275 wOBA against soft stuff from right-handed pitching is better than 58% of the league
  • According to Baseball Info Solutions, Loney has the second-most “good fielding plays” for all first basemen from 2010 to 2013, trailing Joey Votto by nine plays.

Weaknesses (2009-2013):

  • 50 point split between his wOBA versus lefties & righties (.281 vs .339)
  • While power is not his game, he shows very little power against lefties (.094 ISO)
  • wOBA vs lefties is in the bottom 25th percentile
  • Particularly susceptible to hard stuff from lefties as his wOBA ranks in the bottom 20th percentile while he’s in the bottom third against soft stuff versus lefties.
