Jennings Disabled; Bourgeois Recalled

The Rays have placed Desmond Jennings on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 4) and purchased the contract of Jason Bourgeois from Triple-A Durham, according to the official team site.

Bourgeois signed a minor-league deal with Tampa Bay during the winter. In the past he’s gained big-league experience with the Brewers, Astros, and Royals, though he’s failed to stick for long despite playing the infield and the outfield. Small and quick, Bourgeois relies on putting the ball in play for his offensive contributions. He doesn’t walk much, and won’t offer pop, but he’s shown some stolen-base ability before. Presumably the Rays will platoon Bourgeois and Sam Fuld in center field for the time being.

Jennings fractured a finger over the weekend. It’s unclear when the injury occurred. He’ll be eligible to return in mid-August.
