Rays Acquire John Shelby Jr. | The Process Report

Rays Acquire John Shelby Jr.

According to Mark Gonzales, the Rays have acquired John Shelby Jr. from the White Sox for future considerations.

The son of a big leaguer, Shelby Jr. used to be something of a prospect, but iffy plate discipline caught up with him in Double-A, derailing his status. He’ll turn 26 in August and he’d never touched a Triple-A field, so the odds of becoming a big leaguer are dwindling by the month. The best-case scenario here is he becomes a bench player, but even then, that’s unlikely. For now, he’s an organizational soldier type.
