Rays Claim Angel Sanchez Off Waivers

The Rays, in taking advantage of their uncharacteristically high priority, have claimed right-handed pitcher Angel Sanchez off waivers from the Marlins, according to Chris Cotillo.

Sanchez’s name might sound familiar because he was involved in last summer’s Ricky Nolasco trade. While he stands on the smallish side, he has remained in the rotation throughout his career. His best pitch is his low-to-mid-90s fastball, and he has a pair of secondary offerings that could play as average in the majors. In the past, scouts have pegged Sanchez as a potential no. 4 starter, though his command issues could land him to the bullpen.

Sanchez will report to Double-A Montgomery.
