For all catchers with at least 1400 plate appearances

Strengths  2009-2013:

  • Only Yadier Molina has a lower strikeout percentage than Hanigan’s 10.1% rate
  • His 12.1% walk rate is fourth-best trailing Iannetta, Mauer, and Avila
  • Has led the NL in throwing out potential base stealers (by percentage) each of the past two seasons. He has thrown out 47% of attempted baserunners (47 of 99).
  • Has a .287/.413/.410 slash line against lefties
  • Has the lowest Swing/Miss% at 9.9%. Next best is Mauer at 12.9%

Weaknesses 2009-2013:

  • Has a .340 SLG%; lowest of all catchers in the sample size by 33 points
  • Has a .362 wOBA vs LHP (in 331 PA) but just a .294 wOBA vs RHP (in 1120 PA)
  • In 1580 plate appearances, he has attempted just one stolen base. He was caught stealing.
  • Has popped up the third-highest percentage of pitches behind Barajas and Olivo
  • Has most troubles with changeups and cutters; has hit just .160/.222/.200 with 1 extra base hit while facing 334 of those pitch types
