Sherman: Rays Inquired on R.A. Dickey

Andrew Friedman (as well as the rest of the division’s general managers) inquired about Mets starter R.A. Dickey this offseason, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

If you ever needed a textbook example of the Rays’ market-driven ways then this is it. Dickey, 38, should be one of the league’s best values next season with a meager $5 million salary. Even so, the reigning NL Cy Young winner is unlikely to join his AL counterpart in the Rays rotation. Sandy Alderson will look for a grab bag of top prospects for his star knuckleballer, which is a price the Rays tend to shy away from. Nonetheless, it’s a fun idea to think about.
