Sherman: Rays Proposed Matt Joyce-for-Ike Davis Trade

It’s no secret that Andrew Friedman expressed interest in New York’s Ike Davis before re-signing James Loney in December, but today details about a potential deal surfaced.

Following a session of “haggling” over extra players, the Rays “proposed simply doing a one-for-one deal,” according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman notes how Joyce and Davis share similar contract situations, with both making around $3.5 million in 2014. Ultimately, the Mets rejected the deal and the Rays moved on. Davis, for what it’s worth, remains on New York’s roster.
