Site Updates and More

  • Site news: We’ve updated the Options page to reflect the trade and recent additions.
  • For those wondering and unwilling to click over: Jake Odorizzi and Mike Montgomery have three option years apiece remaining.
  • We’ve added a Rule 5 page, though it remains in an infant stage. There you can find that Wil Myers has to be added to the 40-man roster after next season to avoid Rule 5 eligibility, which is all but a formality. Patrick Leonard’s status is not there yet, but he has until the 2015 season.
  • We’ve also “retired” the 33 shield on the side, symbolizing James Shields Day. Now when you click the shield you’ll be redirected to the Shields archive on site.
  • Henry Wrigley signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies. He spent last season as something of a cause célèbre, thanks to his own power production, Carlos Pena’s struggles, and the organizational dearth at the cold corner.  Despite all of it, the Rays opted against adding Wrigley to the 40-man roster and thereby retaining his rights. That tells you about all you need to know about their evaluation of him. But there have been other players—like Russ Canzler, for instance—that found new homes and went on to reach the majors. Look for Wrigley to post big numbers in the Pacific Coast League next season.
  • Wrigley joins Nevin Ashley (Reds) and Ryan Reid (Pirates) as former Tampa Bay draft picks to sign elsewhere this winter as minor-league free agents. Only Ashley enjoyed time on the Rays’ 40-man roster.
