Rays Select Jake Hager at 32

Jake Hager is a 6-foot-1 prep shortstop from Las Vegas. According to Baseball America, Hager has an above-average arm and all the intangibles you want from a shortstop—really, half his profile is talking about how he is a total gamer who eats base path clay for breakfast. Here is what Baseball America said in January 2010 about Hager:

Jake Hager, inf, Sierra Vista HS, Las Vegas: An infielder that bats from the right side and throws righthanded, Hager resembles former big leaguer Jeff Blauser. Hager has average speed (6.91) and excellent defensive skills. As a hitter, he does an advanced job of tracking the ball onto his bat, and can drill line drives to all fields.

He has a commitment to Arizona State University and BA had him as the 122nd best prospect in the draft.
