Rays Make More Cuts

After today’s 3-1 win over the Phillies, the Rays announced they’ve optioned second baseman Tim Beckham, catcher Robinson Chirinos, and shortstop Hak-Ju Lee to Durham. None of the moves are surprising as the players were all but slated for Triple-A since camp began.

These moves allow the players the opportunity to get daily work in games in the minor leagues rather than spot work in what is left of the major league spring training season as the veterans begin to get more repetitions to prepare for opening day. The moves also free up more time for older minor-league players, such as Shelley Duncan, Leslie Anderson, Mike Fontenot, and Cole Figueroa.

These latest demotions, along with the looming dispatch of Wil Myers,  add to what is shaping up to be a talented Bulls roster. The Bulls finished below .500 last year for the first time since the 2006 season. It’s possible that each of the players demoted today will see some action in a Rays uniform at some point in the 2013 season.
